Sometime during the late 17th hundreds or the early 18th hundreds, a girl child was born, named Margaret. Being slave born, we are unable to explain her sir name; as we know in those days slave born children and their parents were given the same name as their landlord. She joined the church at an early age. Several of our fore parents’ membership were affiliated with their landlord or slave master, as they were called. Slaves who were allowed to attend church, attended Jones Creek and Ebenezer, the oldest churches in those days. Some were not allowed too attend church; therefore, they attempted to hide themselves somewhere to pray. It’s been stated they would use a wooded tub or an iron pot so their landlord could not hear them pray. Whenever someone died, they were buried in the backside of the white cemetery.

As years passed, our fore parents decided to organize churches of their own race and anyone desiring to sing and pray could serve the Lord as they desired. Sometimes during the 1st or 2nd score of the 18th hundreds, Margaret reached the stage of an adult lady. She united in marriage to Mr. Smith, and later to Mr. John Golt. To this union six children were born, namely: George, Joe, Ella, Johnnie, Lizzie, and Jannie. As they grew in age and reached the stage of adulthood, they united in marriage to the sons and daughters of the following families: Baggs, Porter, Stripling, Berry, Cromorite, Boogs, Hall, Durr, Richardson, Monroe, Harris, Stafford, Middleton, Jones, Lee, Johnson, Collins, McDonald, Jinks, Miller, Anderson, Cooper, Stephen, Wright, Keys, Brenson, Brith, Thornton, Armstrong, Baker, Alston, Knight, Hayes, Ross, Tippins, Thigpen, Robbins, Watkins, Sherman, Fairley, Austin, Davis, Ervin, Lowe, Larochester, Lanier, Collington, Bacon, Jackson, Andrew, Thomas, Hutchins, Lawrence, Ingram, Walker, Gora, Brinkley, and others.

Those of us who are living in the 20th century are living to witness the eve of the Smith’s 5th generation. The 1st generation consisted of Margaret’s six children namely: George and Lucy, the mother and father of 12 children. Joe and Cassie, the mother and father of 8 children. Lizzie and George, the mother and father of 10 children. Johnnie, the 3rd son, was never united in marriage. Jannie and Lee Bulah, the mother and father of 2 children. Ella and Alford, the mother and father of 10 children. There are 41 children in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation. The number is now greater than we can imagine or express.
